Simcenter STAR-CCM+ exposes many field functions in its simulations. These functions are generally activated as you select physics models for a continuum. Some are activated by solvers, and others only appear if you activate Retain Temporary Storage on the relevant node.

The scalar value defined by:

$Q := \frac{1}{2} ({‖ Ω ‖}^{2} - {‖ S ‖}^{2})$

where $Ω$ is the spin tensor and $S$ is the strain-rate tensor. Where positive, this is vorticity-dominated flow; a negative value implies strain-dominated.
