Exporting a Scene or Plot to a Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer File

You can export the contents of a scene or plot to a Viewer file (.sce) from Simcenter STAR-CCM+.

You can open the .sce file in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer and work with the same interactive image that you had in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. It is also possible to access this functionality through a web browser at , though fewer features are available than with the standalone viewer (for details, refer to the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Web Viewer documentation).

Be sure to use the same version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer as the version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ that you used to create the Viewer file. You can interact with the image to rotate (in scenes), pan, and zoom. If you are exporting a scene that includes sweep animation, you must activate the Precompute Steps option on the relevant animation control beforehand.

  1. To save the scene or plot contents to a Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer file, right-click on the node or the display within the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation, and select Export to Viewer File.

This action activates a dialog, in which the Files of Type: filter is used to select the format of the saved file. The file type is set to the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer file (*.sce) format by default. This format is the only option available for plot export.

  2. To customize the information that appears in the thumbnail preview of the Viewer file in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Viewer, enter a title or a description, or both, in the corresponding text boxes.
NoteIf you export multiple displays at the same time as per the instructions below, the Title and Description are not available.
  3. To compress the data that is saved in the Viewer file, make a selection in the Compression option. For more information, see Compression in Scene Export.
  4. Navigate to the location where you want to save the file, enter the file name in the File Name: text box, and click Save.
  5. To export multiple scenes (and/or plots) to a Viewer file:
    1. Activate the export feature using either of the following techniques:
      • Right-click the Scenes and/or Plots node and select Export to Viewer File.
      • Multi-select the nodes of the particular scenes and/or plots that you wish to export, and select Export to Viewer File.
    2. In the Select Objects to Export dialog, the scenes and/or plots that you selected in the object tree can be seen in the left panel. Alternatively, if you activated the dialog by selecting the Scenes and/or Plots node, then select the specific scenes and/or plots for export now.
    3. To control the sequence in which the exported objects appear in the Viewer file, look at the list in the right panel of the dialog. Use the directional arrows to move the items up or down the list as needed.
    4. Click OK.
You can auto-export a scene (but not a plot) into a Viewer file while the simulation is running. This capability is especially useful for transient simulations as it generates framesets within the Viewer file. To auto-export the scene:
  1. Open the node of the scene and select the Attributes > Update node.
  2. Set File Format to sce.
