Geometry
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ imports geometries from, and integrates within, leading CAD and PLM systems. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ also offers a built-in capability for modifying and creating CAD geometries directly.
- Geometry Import
- Simcenter STAR-CCM+ reads geometric data as follows:
- Native formats: CATIA V4 and V51, Siemens NX1, SolidWorks1, Autodesk Inventor1, PTC Creo1, Rhino 3D1, and Solid Edge1
- Neutral formats: IGES, STEP, Parasolid, IDF, and JTOpen1
- Triangulated formats: STL, CATIA graphics .cgr1, pro-STAR .dbs/.inp, Nastran and Patran shells .nas & .pat, Medina .bif1, FELISA .fro, VDA-FS1
- PLM formats: 3DXML1, PLMXML
- Automatic error check and healing
- CAD Clients
- CAD Clients are available as Simcenter STAR-CCM+ add-ons embedded within leading CAD systems. CAD Clients provide bi-directional and associative geometry data transfer. The supported CAD systems are: CATIA V5, Siemens NX, PTC Creo, and Autodesk Inventor.
- Geometry Modification and Creation
- 3D-CAD is a parametric
feature-based modeler that is built upon the Parasolid kernel. 3D-CAD works on both Linux
and Windows, and is fully integrated within the client-server architecture of Simcenter STAR-CCM+. The extensive suite of CAD functions
include:
- All relevant operations for creating
parametric feature-based solid and sheet bodies
- Sketching, extrusions, revolving, lofting, sweeping, and imprinting
- Body operations: patterning, transforming, Boolean actions, and imprinting
- Multi-surface freeform surface modeling: U-V mesh deformation with edge constraints
- Import and edit 2D and 3D curves
- Defeaturing and sewing tools for imported geometries
- Automatic blade slicing tool for rotating machine geometries (using blade faces or blade sketches)
- Automatic removal of small bodies or surfaces irrelevant to simulation
- Flow domain extraction
- Colors assigned in the CAD packages are imported by default. You can assign or edit colors within 3D-CAD modeler
- Interactive Sections and Exploded Views for examining the inside of a complicated body or viewing how assembly bodies interact with one another.
