Screenplay Animation: Assessing Vehicle Aerodynamics
Screenplay is a post-processing tool in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ that provides keyframe animation techniques for creating analysis videos. Using the Screenplay editor, you define animation effects and movement, and then generate a final rendered video for sharing with project stakeholders.
Keyframes define the value of specific scene properties, such as scalar range or camera view, at specific points in animation time. During the rendering phase, interpolation methods are applied between keyframes to generate a smooth transition of scene properties.
Note the following:
- The Screenplay editor, which appears in a separate tab neighboring the Output window, includes a time cursor that lets you navigate among the animation frames manually.
- Light blue highlighting on an object property indicates that it can be controlled by Screenplay.
- While you move between keyframes using the time cursor, Screenplay does not render transitions in the smooth manner that you see in the final output. Screenplay rendering during editing is intended to give you a general preview of effects only.
Using an external airflow over a car body, this tutorial demonstrates:
- Viewing at all angles with a simple transform
- Switching from scalar data to a geometry surface
- Animating a plane section that shows vorticity
- Applying fade transitions to the plane section
- Modifying camera views throughout the animation
- Exporting to a common video file format
