Preparing Scenes

Modify the scenes of the cyclone separator simulation files in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ so that they are better suited for presentation.

Choose colormaps, add annotations to the mesh, scalar, and streamlines scenes, and prepare the scalar scenes for sweep animation.
Choose colormaps that highlight the large differences in scalar values.
  1. In cyclone1.sim, open all scenes except the geometry scene.
  2. Expand the Scenes > Scalar Scene 1 > Scalar 1 node.
  3. Set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Scalar 1Contour StyleSmooth Filled
    Color BarColor Mappurple-red
    Levels128
  4. Expand the Scenes > Streamlines > Streamlines Stream 1 node.
  5. Set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Streamlines Stream 1
Color BarColor Mappurple-red basic (large difference)
    Levels128
  6. In cycloneModified1.sim, repeat the above procedure.
Add annotations that identify each scene and its case:
  1. In cyclone1.sim, right-click the Tools > Annotations node and select New > Simple Text.
The simple text annotation node appears in the object tree with the default name User.
  2. Create two more simple text annotations. (There should be a total of three new simple text annotations.)
  3. Select the Annotations > User node.
  4. For the Text property, enter Mesh Scene Initial.
  5. Rename the User node with the same text, Mesh Scene Initial.
  6. Repeat the above procedure with the two other annotations:
    1. Use the text Scalar Scene Initial for the User 2 node.
    2. Use the text Streamlines Initial for the User 3 node.
  7. Drag each annotation node into the respective scene.
Each annotation appears at the bottom left of the scene.
  8. Drag the annotation to a more visible position in the scene.
    • If you prefer, edit the Font property of each annotation to adjust the appearance of the text.
  9. Close the scenes and save the simulation.
  10. In cycloneModified1.sim, to set up annotations, repeat the above procedure except, in the annotation text, replace the word "Initial" with "Modified". For example, specify the annotation text of the mesh scene as Mesh Scene Modified. Be sure to drag each annotation node into the respective scene in cycloneModified1.sim, close the scenes, and save the simulation.
Set up sweep animation in the simulations.
  1. In cyclone1.sim, edit the Scenes > Scalar Scene 1 node.
  2. Set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Scalar Scene 1
    Outline 1Opacity0.15
    SurfaceActivated
    Scalar 1
    AnimationsAnimation ModeContinuous Sweep
    Plane SectionPrecompute StepsActivated
    Plane Section 2Number of Steps50
NoteWhile increasing Number of Steps generates a smoother motion in the animation, it also increases memory consumption.
  3. Save the simulation.
  4. In cycloneModified1.sim, to set up sweep animation, repeat the above procedure.
