Actions in STAR-CCM+ That Check Out Parallel Licenses
Any mesh action or solver operation that is performed on a parallel server causes Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to check out parallel licenses.
Specifying the number of processes at startup, using the -np command, sets the upper limit of processes that can be spawned in a parallel session. Once parallel licenses have been checked out, they are not returned until the server is closed.
If you start a parallel server, the following actions in
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ check out parallel licenses:
- For Parts-Based Meshing, any mesh operation (including Boolean operations, imprinting, wrapping, remeshing, replace part, and volume meshing). The parallel license is checked out when you execute the operations pipeline.
- For Directed Meshing, the parallel license is checked out when you execute the Directed Mesher, and at the moment the Directed Mesher panel opens.
- For any solve operation— that is, any operations that invoke any type of solver (Finite Volume, Finite Element Analysis, and Adjoint solvers).
The following actions in
Simcenter STAR-CCM+, regardless of whether a parallel or serial server has been started, do not check out parallel licenses:
- Any post-processing or visualization action.
- Any import action.
- Any 3D-CAD actions.
- Any action in the Surface Repair tool.
