Preparing the Simulation Objects and Mesh

The geometry is already imported and the mesh operation is ready to execute.

Make sure that you have two processes available on the local host machine that you are using.

  1. Launch a double precision version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and click (Load Simulation).
  2. In the Load Simulation dialog:
    1. In the Process Options group box, select Parallel on Local Host and set Compute Processes to 2.
    2. Next to File, click Browse and navigate to the electrochemistry folder of the downloaded tutorial files and select ElectroplatingTutorial_StartFile.sim.
    3. Click Open, then OK.
  3. Save the simulation file as GrilleElectroplating.sim.
The pre-defined simulation file already contains the following items:
  • an automated mesh operation with the relevant settings
  • the fluid region with parts pre-assigned, and whose boundaries are set to the correct types

A tabular polarization curve is required for the electrochemical reaction mechanism. To import the table:

  1. Right-click the Tools > Tables node and select New Table > File Table.
  2. In the Open dialog, navigate to the electrochemistry folder of the downloaded tutorial files and select Song_Cr3+Polarization.csv.
  3. Click Open.
The table is imported and appears under the Tools > Tables node.
To create the volume mesh:
  1. Right-click the Geometry > Operations > Automated Mesh node and select Execute.
  2. Right-click the Scenes > Mesh Scene 1 node and choose Open.
The grille is displayed showing the supporting rack.
