Simcenter STAR-CCM+ 2406
User Guide
Tutorials show you how to use Simcenter STAR-CCM+ for various applications in a step-by-step format with recommendations for setup, initialization and steps of the solution process specific to the application. Macro and simulation files are available for download for a large proportion of cases.
The foundation tutorials showcase the major features of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ in a series of short tutorials.
Macros, input files, and final simulation files for a range of tutorials are provided as an optional download package on the Support Center website. These macros and final simulation files are provided as an aid to the written tutorials, so that you can check your final results against the downloaded files, or against a simulation that is built and run using the macros.
Welcome to the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ introductory tutorial. In this tutorial, you explore the important concepts and workflow. Complete this tutorial before attempting any others.
When you wish to create CAD geometry directly using 3D-CAD, you generally start by creating a sketch on a default sketch plane. A closed sketch becomes a solid body when you extrude it or revolve it in subsequent operations.
In this 3D-CAD tutorial, you create a solid body by revolving a closed sketch. The axis about which you revolve the sketch can be part of the sketch itself in the form of a construction line, or can be defined in the revolve feature.
3D-CAD allows you to create a set of identical bodies in an ordered pattern. Here, you create a single fan blade and apply it in a pattern around the central axis.
Sketch profiles can contain a combination of simple curves, such as arcs and splines. Split and trim tools allow you to remove unwanted curves within a shape. Here, you create a sketch for the fan enclosure.
In cases where you create the wetted volume first, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to surround the volume with a solid shell of specified thickness. This additional solid is then available for simulations that model phenomena in both solid and fluid materials.
Modeling anything with a moving part, such as the graphics card fan, requires at least two simulation regions. One region rotates to model the motion of the fan, while the other region remains stationary to represent the remaining air. Here, you create the rotating region in 3D-CAD.
