Connect to Server Dialog Reference

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to manually enter details of a server to which you wish to connect.

Host The host name of the machine where the server process is running. The dialog includes a scroll-down list of past client-server connections, allowing you to access a host multiple times while entering its information only once.
Port The port number that the server process is listening on. When a Simcenter STAR-CCM+ server process is started, it reports the port number that it is listening on. In the following example, the server is started on the host cindy and is listening on the port 47828:
Server::start -host cindy:47828
File Read-only entry that shows the name and location of the simulation file associated with the server.
Type Choose a type of server: Simulation or Design Manager Project.
Rendering

You can switch from local, the default client graphics rendering, to remote, which causes the rendering to take place on a remote server. The graphics capabilities of the remote machine are used for rendering. Remote rendering is especially useful when connecting a client to a server running on a remote machine.

The Rendering drop-down list provides the following options:

  • Local (default)—rendering is not remote. Rather, it is performed in the local Simcenter STAR-CCM+ client.
  • Server—rendering is performed by a separate server process on the same machine that hosts the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ primary process.
  • Dedicated Service—allows you to select a host and port on which a rendering service is already available. To locate a rendering service on a particular machine:
    • Enter the hostname of that machine in the Host field.
    • Click Scan. Any available rendering services appear in a drop-down list of ports in the Port field.
  • Ad hoc Service—allows the server to launch a render server on the user-defined machine. For details about this type of rendering, see Additional Information on Remote Rendering.
Scan When clicked, this button checks for Simcenter STAR-CCM+ server processes on the specified host, and indicates how many it finds.
Connect Through SSH Tunnel Activates the secure shell tunnel options, and applies these in order to access the chosen Host.
Secure Shell Tunnel Host The name of the host machine through which you wish to tunnel. In a cluster situation this would be the cluster head-node.
Secure Shell Tunnel Host Username Your user name on the ssh host. You must be able to access this host without a password.
Secure Shell Choose the type of shell that you want to use for the tunnel. The default type is ssh.
Secure Shell Options Include any extra options.
