Adjusting the Injector Nozzles

For the nozzles that are positioned within the half engine model, you define differing nozzle targets and cone angles.

In the object tree, warning triangles indicate the nozzles that are positioned outside of the fluid domain.

Do not delete these nozzles—they are used to calculate the correct flow rate for the half injector model.

To point the target of Nozzle 1 to the intake valve :

  1. Right-click the Engine > Injector > Nozzle 1 node and select Edit.
  2. For Nozzle Target, set the following properties:
    Property Setting
    [X, Y, Z] [0.0 m, 0.0 m, 0.015 m]
Coordinate system Laboratory\intake-valve 1 Coordinate System
  3. Click Apply, then click anywhere in the empty space of the Graphics window.

The following image displays the updated target of the nozzle:

  4. Click Close.
To increase the outer angle of the injection cone for Nozzle 2:
  1. Edit the Engine > Injector > Nozzle 2 node.
  2. In the Injector Nozzle : Nozzle 2 dialog, set Outer Cone Angle to 35.0 deg.
  3. Click Apply, then Close.

The following image displays the increased outer cone angle of the nozzle:

To adjust the injection cone of Nozzle 3:
  1. Edit the Engine > Injector > Nozzle 3 node.
  2. In the Injector Nozzle : Nozzle 3 dialog, set the following properties:
    Property Setting
    Inner Cone Angle 15.0 deg
    Outer Cone Angle 35.0 deg
  3. Click Apply, then Close.

The following image displays the hollow spray cone of the nozzle:

  4. Save the simulation .
