Reusing Meshes for Multi-Cycle Simulations

For multi-cycle simulations, you can save mesh stations within a cycle to a specified output directory and reuse them in the next cycle, which avoids remeshing time. You can also use the saved mesh files in variants of the original simulation as long as the meshing parameters are the same.

To set up mesh reuse:
  1. Right-click the Models > Remeshing node and select Edit.
  2. In the Remeshing Settings dialog, activate Reuse Meshes.
  3. Set the following properties:
    • CCM Output Directory—manually enter the path of the directory, such as ./meshes, or click Select to navigate to the directory where you want to save the meshes.
    • Mesh File Base Name
  4. If you want to clear mesh reuse:
    1. Activate one or both of the following properties:
      • Clear Mesh Files—allows you to clear the saved Simcenter STAR-CCM+ CCM files from the specified output directory.
      • Clear Internal Re-use Table—allows you to clear the internal state of mesh reuse. Activate this option when you want to rerun the simulation with different mesh settings or when you move a copy of the simulation file to another directory to run a different engine configuration.
    2. Click Clear Mesh Re-use.
    3. If you activated the Clear Mesh Files property, in the Confirm Mesh File Deletion dialog, click Yes.
  5. Click Apply, then Close.
