Reporting Additional Field Functions at Maximum or Minimum

The maximum and minimum reports accept a list of field functions whose values are output at the location of the maximum or minimum value of the primary field function.

This feature has a variety of uses. For example, it allows you to get the location of the maximum pressure in the computational domain by adding the components of the Position field function as collocated field functions, or to get the concentrations of chemical species at the location of maximum temperature.

If you use this optional feature, the report displays values for all the specified field functions at the minimum or maximum of each part, and over all parts.

To add collocated field functions in the UI:

  1. Create a Maximum or Minimum report.
  2. Specify the primary field function in the Field Function property.
  3. Select the additional field functions in the Collocated Field Functions property.
NoteFor collocated field functions to be available on most parts, a Position field function must be among the field functions available for post-processing. Exceptions are phase interactions, which require the Contact Centroid, and tracks, which require the Track Coordinate.
  4. Specify one or more parts for the report.
  5. To view the values, run the report.
The primary and collocated values for individual parts and over all parts appear in the Output window.
  6. If collocated field function data is unavailable, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ generates an error message in the report output. To investigate the error, right-click the node of the report and select Error Log.
If you create a monitor from a Maximum or Minimum report, the monitor has options in its Value Type property for specifying collocated field functions and parts for monitoring:
  • Collocated Value—activates the Collocated Field Function sub-node to let you select any of the collocated field functions of the source report.
  • Part Collocated Value—activates the Collocated Field Function and Report Part sub-nodes to let you select collocated field functions on particular parts from the source report.
