Saving Simulations to File
A simulation file contains the complete set of simulation objects, state, and data for the problem.
It is the restart file for Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and is stored with the .sim extension. Since it is a binary file, applications other than Simcenter STAR-CCM+ cannot read it. The file can safely be moved, copied, and renamed using operating system commands as it is the only file that is associated with a simulation.
When you save over an existing simulation or save a copy of a simulation, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ unloads any outdated surface mesh data from the memory whilst maintaining the latest surface mesh for each part. During this process the reported RAM may stay the same, however, the freed memory is used in the next command issued to the server.
