Loading the Reference Simulation and Starting Design Manager

Create a Design Manager project using the reference simulation.

Before doing anything in Design Manager, you are advised to run the reference simulation to convergence. Doing so, makes sure that Design Manager has a good foundation to work with when making changes. In this tutorial, the simulation file provided is already set up and converges to an acceptable level. In order to reduce the size of the simulation file, and because Design Manager requires the reference simulation to have no existing solution, the solution data is cleared in the simulation file.

Load the reference simulation in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and create a Design Manager project:

  1. In your workspace, create a folder named Static Mixer.
  2. Navigate to the designExploration folder of the downloaded tutorials bundle.
  3. Copy staticMixer_reference.sim to your workspace.
  4. Launch Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and select File > Load....
  5. In the Load a File dialog, click Browse... and open staticMixer_reference.sim from your workspace.
  6. Right-click the root node of the simulation tree, staticMixer_reference, and select Create Design Manager Project.
The contents of the simulation file are read into the Design Manager study and are ready for use. During this process, Design Manager scans the simulation file for objects that map to inputs and outputs. Design parameters can be used as inputs, while reports, scenes, and plots are outputs.
  7. Click File > Save.
  8. In the Save dialog, save the project as staticMixer_optimization.dmprj
