Smart Sweep Study for Air Compressor: Performance Map
The operating conditions of an air compressor are stable for mass flow values within a specific range. The operating range varies with the rotational rate of the air compressor rotor. Mass flow values below this range are too low to maintain the desired pressure ratio and can lead to a harmful surge in the air compressor. Mass flow above this range can lead to a choke in the air compressor.
In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, you can model the performance map for turbomachinery by performing a smart sweep study in Design Manager, where you create design runs for varying operating conditions and specify more design points around a critical operating range.
In this tutorial, you start with a flow-aligned structured mesh generated using the Turbomachinery Mesh. You then set up the physics for the reference simulation of the Design Manager project, and run a smart sweep study to generate a performance map.
