Modifying Model and Solver Settings for Coupled Flow

Due to the high rotational speed of the rotor, the flow field of an air compressor might be sensitive.

Several model parameters and solver settings must be improved to enhance the simulation stability. For more details, refer to Coupled Flow Guidelines and Coupled Flow Solvers Reference.
  1. To modify the model settings:
    1. Select the Physics 1 > Models > SST (Menter) K-Omega node and modify the following two parameters:
      • Reduce Sigma_k1 to 0.5.
      • Increase a1 to 1.0.
    2. Select the SST (Menter) K-Omega > Realizability Coefficient node and set Realizability Coefficient to 1.2.
  2. To improve the initial conditions:
    1. Select the Physics 1 > Initial Conditions > Pressure node and set Value to 5000.0 Pa.
    2. Select the Static Temperature node and set Value to 288.15 K.
    3. Select the Turbulence Intensity node and set Value to 0.03.
  3. To improve the solver settings:
    1. Select the Solvers > Coupled Implicit > Automatic CFL node and set Target AMG Cycles to 2.
    2. Select the Constant Relaxation node and set Explicit Relaxation to 0.1.
