Mesh Motion and Adaption
Many simulations that involve motion or geometry change require you to move or deform the mesh. Other simulations require localized mesh adaption in order to achieve an accurate solution.
For some applications, multiple mesh methods could be applied to realize the same motion. For large scale motions, you can apply overset meshing rather than relying on mesh deformation.
The following mesh methods are provided in Simcenter STAR-CCM+:
- Overset Meshes, most appropriate for problems dealing with large motions.
- Morphing, most appropriate for moving boundaries, where the shape of the boundaries maintain.
- Adaptive Mesh Refinement, mesh refinement method, for physics driven local mesh refinement.
- General Remeshing, usually used in combination with morpher, to ensure the mesh quality.
