Setting Up Fully-Developed Flow Interfaces

For fully-developed flow simulations, you model only a section of the geometry and define a fully-developed interface across the upstream and downstream faces.

Before you set up the fully-developed interface, make sure that you prepared the geometry and created a periodic interface as described in Preparing the Geometry.
To set up the interface for a fully-developd flow simulation:
  1. Select the Interfaces > [periodic interface] node and set Type to Fully-Developed Interface.
  2. For the benefit of the prism layer mesher, before you generate the mesh, set the upstream flow boundary type to Velocity Inlet and the downstream flow boundary type to Pressure Outlet. These settings make sure that the prism layer mesher does not apply layers on these surfaces.
  3. Define the target flow condition for the interface:
    1. Select the Interfaces > [periodic interface] > Physics Conditions > Fully Developed Flow Option node and set Fully Developed Flow Option to either Pressure Jump or Mass Flow Rate as the controlling factor for flow through the pipe section.
    2. Within the Physics Values node for the interface, select the corresponding Pressure Jump or Mass Flow Rate node and set the target value.
