Loading the Starting File and Running the Combustion Simulation

You start this tutorial by loading a simulation file that contains the cylindrical burner geometry with the meshing operations to generate the volume mesh, already set up. To provide input for the acoustic modal analysis, you run a fully prepared steady-state combustion simulation using the Eddy Break-Up model.

To load the starting simulation file:

  1. Open Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and select File > Load.
  2. In the Load a File dialog:
    1. In the Process Options box, select an appropriate parallel option and set the number of Compute Processes to 4.
    2. Click Browse.
    3. Navigate to the reactingFlow folder of the downloaded tutorial files and select the file cylindricalBurner_start.sim.
    4. Click Open, then OK.
  3. Open the Geometry scene.

  4. To generate the mesh using the pre-defined mesh operations, right-click the Geometry > Operations > Automated Mesh node and select Execute.
  5. To visualize the mesh, open the Mesh scene.

You run the combustion solution within the cylindrical burner with suitably pre-selected physics models and initial conditions.
  1. In the Solution toolbar, click (Run).
  2. Open the Temperature scene.
The temperature distribution result highlights the regions of change from unburnt to burnt gas, indicating the flame front for this combustion simulation..

  3. Save the file as cylindricalBurner.sim.
