Preparing for Analysis

Create a scalar scene to display the Z-component of the magnetic flux density on the magnet. Also, create a plot to display the flux density along a line contour directed along the radius of the magnet plate.

  1. Create a scalar scene and rename it to Magnetic Flux Density [k].
  2. Edit the Magnetic Flux Density [k] node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Outline 1 Outline Deactivated
    Scalar 1 Display Mesh Activated
    Contour Style Smooth Filled
    Parts Parts Regions > Magnet
    Scalar Field Function Magnetic Flux Density > Laboratory > k
To plot the flux-density along a line contour, create a line probe that is directed along the radius of the magnet plate. Position the line origin, that is, the start point, in the center of the air gap. Since the center of the air gap is located 6 mm from the magnet surface, and the magnet length is 8 mm in the z-direction, position the line at z = 14 mm. To create the line probe, it is convenient to use a cylindrical coordinate system:
  1. Right-click the Tools > Coordinate Systems > Laboratory > Local Coordinate Systems node and select New > Cylindrical.
  2. In the Create Cylindrical Coordinate System in-place dialog, click Create then Close.
  3. Right-click the Derived Parts node and select New > Probe > Line Probe.
  4. In the Create Line Probe editor:
    1. Click Select in the Input Parts group box. In the Select Objects dialog, select all regions and boundaries then click OK.
    2. Set the remaining properties as follows:
      Property Setting
      Coordinate System Laboratory > Cylindrical 1
      Point 1 r = 0 m
      theta = 0 rad
      z = 0.014 m
      Point 2 r = 0.12 m
      theta = 22.5 deg
      z = 0.014 m
      Display Existing Displayer > Scalar 1
    3. Click Create then Close.
  5. Right-click the Plots node and select New Plot > XY Plot.
  6. Rename the XY Plot 1 node to Radial Magnetic Flux Density.
  7. Edit the Radial Magnetic Flux Density node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Radial Magnetic Flux Density Parts Derived Parts > Line Probe
    Title B(r)
    X Type Data Type Scalar
    Scalar Function Field Function Position > Laboratory > Cylindrical > r
    Y Types > Y Type 1 Smooth Values Activated
    Scalar Function Field Function Magnetic Flux Density > Magnitude
    Line Probe Sort Plot Data Activated
    Line Style Style Solid
  8. Save the simulation.
