Setting Up the Inflow Boundary Conditions

The boundary types have already been defined in the starting simulation file. The inner phase enters through the inner layer boundary with an average velocity of 0.0055 m/s. The outer phase flows slightly slower through the outer layer boundary with a velocity of 0.0050 m/s. The phase field determines which phase enters though which velocity inlet: a value of 1 indicates that 100% of the phase enters through the boundary; a value of 0 means that 0% of the phase enters through the boundary.

To set up the boundary conditions:

  1. Specify the inner layer boundary conditions:
    1. Expand the Regions > Die > Boundaries > Inner Layer node.
    2. Edit the Inner Layer > Physics Values node and set the following properties:
      Node Property Setting
      Average Velocity Value 0.0055 m/s
      Phase Field Value [0.0, 1.0]
  2. Specify the outer layer boundary conditions:
    1. Expand the Boundaries > Outer Layer node.
    2. Edit the Outer Layer > Physics Values node and set the following properties:
      Node Property Setting
      Average Velocity Value 0.005 m/s
      Phase Field Value [1.0, 0.0]
The outlet boundary gauge pressure is left as 0.0 Pa. This corresponds to atmospheric conditions outside the die.
  1. Save the simulation.
