Importing the CAD as Individual Parts
In this part of the tutorial, you adjust the simulation template to work with a HVAC duct that has not been prepared as a water-tight geometry.
The HVAC duct geometry consists of multiple parts: an adjuster, a clip, a duct, vanes, and patches. You create a surface wrapper operation and define the inputs using tag based predicates. With this method, you are not required to manually prepare a unified, watertight geometry before you import the HVAC duct into Simcenter STAR-CCM+—instead, you set up the simulation template to prepare the geometry.
As the mesh elements are small, the surface wrapper does not wrap over gaps that are larger than the tolerances in the geometry model. To ensure the surface wrapper output is a watertight geometry part, patches are imported along with the duct geometry parts to close the gaps.
