Surrogates: Reliability of an Industrial Exhaust System
Robustness and reliability studies are employed to assess the influence of installation and manufacturing tolerances on the performance of a design. In Design Manager, surrogate models provide an efficient method for running these studies as using surrogates reduces the overall number of flow simulations that must be run.
Analyzing the Reliability Study Results
You analyze the results of the reliability study by creating probability distribution plots (histogram plots) for the pressure drop and the uniformity responses. These plots give you the expected spread in values of pressure drop and uniformity when uncertainties are accounted for.

  - Adjoint Shape Optimization: Mesh Sensitivity for Dual Element Wing
    A typical application of an adjoint flow analysis is to use the computed gradients in a shape optimization study with respect to a chosen cost function. In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, simulation operations allow you to construct an automated pipeline for optimization studies without any need for Java macros.

Analyzing the Reliability Study Results

You analyze the results of the reliability study by creating probability distribution plots (histogram plots) for the pressure drop and the uniformity responses. These plots give you the expected spread in values of pressure drop and uniformity when uncertainties are accounted for.

To analyze the reliability study results:

Right-click the Reliability > Responses > Pressure Drop MA node and select Create Plot > Probability Distribution.
In the Probability Distribition Plot Setup dialog, click OK.
Right-click the Reliability > Responses > Velocity Uniformity MA node and select Create Plot > Probability Distribution.
In the Probability Distribition Plot Setup dialog, click OK.
