Importing and Exporting Geometry
3D-CAD allows you to import and export geometry using many different formats. Importing geometry directly into a 3D-CAD model allows you to modify the geometry using repeatable features before transferring it to geometry parts.
Importing a geometry into Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to modify it before running a simulation. This facilitates the simulation process by allowing you to defeature a complicated geometry, extract an internal or external volume, and set up boundary names on the CAD model. When you import assemblies into 3D-CAD, the geometry hierarchy from the external CAD package is maintained. Bodies are organised in 3D-CAD using body groups. The names of the bodies and surfaces are also maintained. See Body Groups.
If you want to export a geometry from Simcenter STAR-CCM+, see Exporting Geometry from 3D-CAD.
