3D-CAD Geometry Modeling

Bodies represent the individual objects that make up the 3D-CAD model. Imported CAD geometry appears as bodies in 3D-CAD, and you can also create your own bodies directly using 3D-CAD features.

There are two types of bodies in 3D-CAD: Sheet Bodies and Solid Bodies. All bodies are stored under the Body Groups node for the model, and can be operated on by executing the commands that are shown below. The faces of a body can also be operated on, and are accessed by selecting them in the 3D-CAD View scene.

A Body Group is a collection of bodies and other body groups which are organized in a specified hierarchy. In many ways, a Body Group is similar to an assembly in other CAD software except that there are no assembly constraints in Body Groups. When you import a geometry model into 3D-CAD, the order and structure of the assembly is maintained. Any subsequent changes to the position and orientation of bodies override the original state. In 3D-CAD, a body group is treated as a container for other bodies, which means that you cannot operate on the body group itself. If you want to operate on all the bodies in a body group, you must select all the bodies individually and perform the desired operations.

You can import individual or groups of bodies into the main simulation. You can also export bodies from 3D-CAD as a neutral CAD format. The following options are available from the main simulation tree as well as from 3D-CAD:
