Selecting Hidden and Obscured Objects in 3D-CAD

Use the depth selector to view and select objects which are hidden or otherwise obscured by other objects in the graphics window.

The depth selector is available while in 3D-CAD for selecting bodies, as well as in Sketch Mode (for 2D and 3D sketches).

To select a hidden object or sketch entity:
  1. In the graphics window:
    • In Sketch Mode, right-click near the area where you want to select sketch entity and choose (Select Other).
    • Outside Sketch Mode, right-click a face or edge in the graphics window and choose (Select Other).

A panel appears at the location that you right-click and cannot be moved. Inside the panel, there is a list of nearby entities/objects that you can select. If the panel is blocking the view of the geometry in the scene, you can pan or resize the geometry to bring it into view. While the panel is open, you cannot select entities on the geometry from the graphics window, such as faces, edges, or vertices.

  2. In the panel, use the scroll wheel to cycle through the list, or use the <UP>/<DOWN> keys on the keyboard.

The active selection is highlighted in the graphics window.

  3. You can filter the list using one of the following filters. Filters that are not relevant for a particular situation (for example in Sketch Mode) are not displayed:
    • (All) — Allows the selection of any type of entities.
    • (2D Sketch Curves) — Only selects entities from within a 2D sketch.
    • (3D Sketch Curves) — Only selects entities from within a 3D sketch.
    • (Body) — Selects entire sheet bodies or solid bodies. This filter is not relevant in 2D and 3D Sketches
    • (Face) — Selects faces only.
    • (Edge) — Selects edges only.
    • (Vertex) — Selects vertices only. This filter is not relevant in 2D Sketches.
  4. Click on an item in the list to select it.
  5. To close the panel without selecting an entity, click .
