Modeling Ohmic Heating in Porous Media

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to model Ohmic Heating in the solid phases of porous media.

The Ohmic Heating model in porous media requires Electromagnetism model in at least one of the phases. Once the Ohmic heating model is selected in the physics continuum, it accounts for Ohmic heat that is produced in any of the porous phases and provides the field functions such as Specific Ohmic Heat for all of them. The steps in this workflow are intended to follow on from the initial steps in the Modeling Ohmic Heating workflow.
  1. Before selecting the physics models make sure that Auto-Select recommended models is activated. Right-click the Continua > [fluid physics continuum] > Models node and select the following models:
    Group Box Model
Material One of: Gas, Liquid, Multi-Component Gas, Multi-Component Liquid
Flow Activate either Coupled Flow or Segregated Flow.
    Equation of State Any
    Viscous Regime Any
Optional Models Segregated Fluid Temperature or Segregated Fluid Enthalpy
    Optional Models Porous Media

    See Porous Media Models.

  2. Click Close.
  3. Right-click the [fluid physics continuum] > Models > Porous Media > Porous Phases node and select New.
  4. Right-click the Porous Phases > [phase] > Models node and select the following models:
    Group Box Model
    Material Solid
    Equation of State Any
    Optional Models Electromagnetism

The Gradients and Electrodynamic Potential models are selected automatically. After the Electrodynamic Potential model is selected in at least one porous media phase, the Ohmic Heating model becomes available for selection in [fluid physics continuum] .

  5. Click Close.
  6. For the [fluid physics continuum], select the following model:
    Group Box Model
    Optional Models Ohmic Heating
  7. Click Close.
  8. Return to the Step 6. in the Modeling Ohmic Heating workflow.
