Using the Circuit Model

The Circuit model lets you model a circuit with specified circuit elements and circuit connections. Selecting this model activates the circuit solver in the physics continuum.

The Circuit model is a required model in battery simulations and is selected automatically when you activate the Battery model. The Circuit model is an optional model that is available for suitable electromagnetic simulations. The Circuit model allows you to create electrical circuits and compute the electrical solution for them.

To select the Circuit model:

  1. In the Physics 1 Model Selection dialog, select the following models in order:
    Group Box Model
    Time Implicit Unsteady
    Space The appropriate space model.
    Material The appropriate material model.
    Optional Models Electromagnetism
    Electromagnetism The appropriate Electromagnetism model.
    Optional Models Circuit Model
  2. Select any other models that you require from the Optional Models group box and then click Close.

The list of selected models can be seen by expanding the Models node in the physics continuum.

The Circuit Model has no properties, but it activates the Circuits > [Circuit Name] and Solvers > Circuit nodes where you set the circuit solver properties. You can create multiple circuits and set the circuit solver properties independently for each circuit: the elements and connections for each circuit are stored in the corresponding [Circuit Name] node under the Circuits node.

See Circuit Model Reference.

When you create a circuit element, the corresponding field function Current <Circuit Element Name> Circuit Element is made available under the Automation > Field Functions node. This field function represents the electric current through the circuit element.

For more information on the available circuit elements, see Circuit Elements Reference.
