Fluid-Structure Interaction Basic Workflow

Starting from an uncoupled set up with a fully defined fluid and solid domain, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to define a general FSI analysis that accounts for two-way coupling.

To set up a fluid-structure interaction simulation:
  1. Create contact-based interfaces between the fluid and solid regions.
  2. Select the Stabilization Method under the Fluid Structure Coupling solver node.
  3. Within the solid region interface boundary configure the FSI Coupling Specification.
  4. Assign the respective Motions to the fluid and solid regions.
  5. Configure the stopping criteria by disabling the Force Critierion and Displacement Critierion under the Stopping Criteria node.
For more detail into the steps required see Fluid Structure Interaction General Workflow.
