Analyzing the Results

When the simulation is complete, review the scenes and plots.

  1. Open the Mole Fraction O2 scene.

The concentration of oxygen is low across a significant area of the porous cathode.
  2. Open the Reaction Flux O2 scene.

In the area of the cathode with a low concentration of oxygen, the reaction rate with respect to oxygen is decreased. The decreased reaction rate shows that the rate is limited by the concentration of oxygen, which is limited by the diffusion rate of oxygen through the porous phase in the cathode.
  3. Open the Current Conservation, Energy Conservation, and Mass Conservation plots.

The current through all cross sections displays an equal value, indicating that a good conservation of electrical currents is warranted.

The external power that is generated (Eqn. (5286)) balances with the flow boundary enthalpy losses (Eqn. (5285)).

The conservation plots appear as shown:

For each of the species, H2, H2O, and O2, their respective masses created by the electrochemical reactions (shown by the mass reaction monitors) balance with the masses of each respective species entering the fluid streams (shown by the mass gain monitors).

  4. Save the Simulation.
