Setting Up the Regions and Interfaces

You specify which continua each of the regions use, and define the properties and values for each region.

To set up the regions and interfaces:
  1. Edit the Regions node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    air Physics Continuum Air
    anode Physics Continuum Fuel
    cathode Physics Continuum Air
    currentcollector-anode Physics Continuum CCanode
    currentcollector-cathode Physics Continuum CCcathode
    fuel Physics Continuum Fuel
    tube-anode Physics Continuum Tubes
    tube-cathode Physics Continuum Tubes
  2. Create a shell region at the triple phase boundary (TPB) interface between the porous anode and the solid oxide electrolyte membrane.
    1. Right-click the Regions > anode > Boundaries > mem-Interface node and select Create Shell Region.
    2. Rename the Regions > mem-Interface shell node to mem.

    3. Select the Regions > mem node and set Continuum to Mem.
    4. Expand the Regions > mem > Physics Values > Shell Thickness node and set Value to 6.0E-5 m.
  3. Rename the Interfaces > In-place 1 node to anode-TPB.
  4. Rename the Regions > mem > Boundaries > mem-interface node to Interface to cathode.
  5. Multi-select the following nodes, then right-click one of the selected nodes and select Create Interface.
    • Regions > mem > Boundaries > Interface to cathode
    • Regions > cathode > Boundaries > mem-Interface
  6. Rename the newly created Interfaces > Interface 1 node to cathode-TPB.
  7. Assign the porous phases to the anode and cathode regions:
    1. Select the Continua > Air > Models > Porous Media > Porous Phases > conductor-cathode node and set Regions to cathode.
    2. Select the Continua > Fuel > Models > Porous Media > Porous Phases > conductor-anode node and set Regions to anode.
The solid parts of the porous anode and cathode are conducting, therefore, values must be specified for the solid electrical and thermal conductivities.
  1. Edit the Regions > anode > Physics Values node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Porosity Value 0.3
Porous Viscous Resistance Method Isotropic Tensor
Isotropic Tensor > Isotropic Component Value 887.789 kg/m^3-s
  2. Edit the Regions > cathode > Physics Values node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Porosity Value 0.7
Porous Viscous Resistance Method Isotropic Tensor
Isotropic Tensor > Isotropic Component Value 1855.08 kg/m^3-s
  3. Save the simulation.
