Injecting the Particles

At the beginning of the simulation, 2000 particles with a diameter of 50 mm are at rest within the domain trench. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ uses injectors to add particles to a simulation.

You create an injector to deliver the spherical DEM particles into the domain. To restrict injection of the particles to the trench, you create an injection volume geometry part of a corresponding size that serves as input to the random injector.

To inject the particles:

  1. Create the injection volume:
    1. Right-click the Geometry > Parts node and select New Shape Part > Block .
    2. Fill in the Corner 1 and Corner 2 coordinates as follows:
      Coordinate Corner 1 Corner 2
      X -0.18 m 0.18 m
      Y -2.2 m -0.2 m
      Z -2.2 m -2.0 m
    3. Click Create, then Close.
    4. Rename the Block node as Injection Volume.
  2. Create the injector:
    1. Right-click the Injectors node and select New.
    2. Select the Injector 1 node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Type Random Injector
      Lagrangian Phase Particles
      Inputs Parts > Injection Volume
    3. Expand the Injector 1 node and set the following properties:
      Node Property Setting
      Conditions
Particle Packing Specification Method Particle Count
      Values
      Number of Particles Value 2000.0
      Number of Seeds Value 500
      Particle Diameter Value 50 mm
  3. Save the simulation.
