Prescribing the Bucket Motion

You prescribe the motion of the excavator shovel as a translational motion in the X-Y plane superposed with a rotational motion around the X axis. The starting simulation file contains field functions that describe this motion.

The components of the velocity vector for the translational motion are given by:

where t s = 3 s is the time at which scooping starts.

To prescribe the bucket motion:

  1. Right-click the Tools > Motions node and select New > Translation.
  2. Rename the Translation node to Bucket Motion.
  3. Select the Bucket Motion node and set Translation Velocity to [0.0, ${bucketVy}, ${bucketVz}].
  4. Right-click the Bucket Motion > Superposing Motions node and select New > Rotation.
  5. Select the Rotation > Rotation Axis node and set the following properties:

    Rotation Direction [1.0, 0.0, 0.0]
    Origin [0.0, -0.629, -1.084] m
  6. Select the Regions > Bucket > Physics Values > Motion Specification node and set Motion to Bucket MotionRotation.
  7. Save the simulation.
