  - Subsonic Flow: NACA-Type Intake
    This tutorial illustrates how to solve a three-dimensional compressible flow problem using Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
    - Importing the Mesh and Naming the Simulation
      Create a new simulation, import the supplied mesh, and name the simulation intake.

      In compressible fluid problems, it is advisable to initialize the flow to a non-zero initial velocity and a meaningful pressure. Here, you use the freestream velocity and the duct outlet pressure.

      Field functions provide a mechanism by which fields (raw data from the simulation stored in cells and/or on boundaries) may be viewed and defined.

  - Anisotropic Volume Meshing: Onera M6 Wing
    When meshing aerospace geometries such as wings, propeller blades, or turbine blades, you are required to generate a very fine mesh that adequately captures the curvature of the leading and trailing edges. To help reduce the cell count while maintaining solution accuracy, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ provides an anisotropic meshing option by which you can refine these edges.
  - Adaptive Mesh Refinement: Hypersonic Flow
    Hypersonic flows and flight envelopes present unique challenges in Computational Flow Dynamics. The extreme gradients and shocks can push flow solvers to their limits and resolving the flow features, particularly shock formation, is of paramount importance in obtaining valid converged solutions. In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, you can apply Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) to accurately resolve developing shocks using refinement based on solution gradients.

Closing and Restarting

Close and restart the simulation.

Close the file by closing the intake window.

It is easy to reopen the file and restore the displays.

Select File > Recent Files > intake.sim from the top menus.

Alternatively, you can select the File > Load menu item. This activates the Load a File dialog.
Click the Browse button to activate the Open dialog. Use it to locate the simulation file and then click Open.
Back in the Load a File dialog, the name and path of the simulation file appears in the File text box.
Click OK.
A new window appears for the simulation.

The next step is to restore the displays and plots

Expand the Scenes node and double-click each scene display’s node one at a time.
Expand the Plots node and double-click the Residuals and XY Plot 1 nodes.
