Max Particle Packing Reference
The Max Particle Packing is a time-step provider within the adaptive time-step framework that reduces the simulation time-step whenever the frictional solid pressure of the dispersed phase exceeds a user-specified threshold value. This time-step provider is valid for granular Eulerian multiphase flow simulations.
Applying this time-step provider allows you to run a granular multiphase flow simulation with a time-step suitable for the bulk flow, and only reduce the time-step in time periods when the frictional solid pressure exceeds the Threshold Frictional Solid Pressure. A high frictional solid pressure indicates a dense packing of particles. The time-step adjustment is a simple step change to the minimum value that you specify for the provider.

Max Particle Packing Properties
- Enable/Disable
- Criterion Minimum Time-Step
- Specifies the time-step size provided to the adaptive time-step framework when the frictional solid pressure goes above the threshold value. Suggested time-step values are typically between 2.5e-4 s and 5.0E-4 s for this type of simulation. The default value is 4E-4 s.
- Threshold Frictional Solid Pressure
- Specifies the threshold value of the frictional solid pressure above which the time-step provider proposes its time-step to the adaptive time-step framework. When the frictional solid pressure exceeds this threshold value, the time-step provider reduces the local time-step down to the specified Criterion Minimum Time-Step. When the frictional solid pressure falls below this threshold, the time-step provider reverses to the global time-step. The default value is 1000 Pa.
