Defining the Magnet Physics

Select the physics models that define the magnet physics. To account for the rotation of the magnet, you define the magnetization direction in a local coordinate system that follows its motion.

The starting simulation already contains a physics continuum for the magnet. This continuum is assigned to the magnet region.
  1. For the physics continuum, Continua > Magnet, select the following models:
    Group box Physics Model
    Space Three-Dimensional (preselected)
    Time Implicit Unsteady
    Material Solid
    Optional Models Electromagnetism
    Enabled Models Gradients (selected automatically)
Electromagnetism Finite Element Magnetic Vector Potential
Enabled Models Eddy Current Suppression (selected automatically)
    Optional Models Permanent Magnet
Permanent Magnet Specification Linear Permanent Magnet General
  2. Rename the Continua > Magnet > Models > Solid > Al node to Magnet.
The default material properties, including the remanence flux density of the permanent magnet, are appropriate for this case.
To define the magnetization direction:
  1. Select the Continua > Magnet > Models > Permanent Magnet > Magnetization Direction and set the following properties:
    Property Setting
    Value [1.0, 0.0, 0.0]
Coordinate System Laboratory > Cartesian 1
  2. Save the simulation.
