Defining the Rotation Motion

The magnet and the surrounding air rotate rigidly at 1 rps. Define the rotation motion and create a local coordinate system that follows the rotation.

To define the rotation motion:
  1. Right-click the Tools > Motions node and select New > Rotation.
  2. Expand the Tools > Motions > Rotation node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
Rotation Rate Rotation Rate 1 rps
    Rotation Axis Direction [0.0, 0.0, 1.0]
To assign the motion to the magnet and the rotating air region:
  1. Expand the Regions node and multi-select the Magnet and Rotating region nodes.
  2. Right-click one of the selected nodes and select Edit...
  3. In the Multiple Objects dialog, expand the Physics Values > Motion Specification node and set Motion to Rotation.
  4. Click Close.
Create a local coordinate system that follows the rotation motion. Later, you use this coordinate system to define the magnetization direction of the permanent magnet.

To create a local coordinate system oriented along the magnet edges:

  1. Right-click the Tools > Coordinate Systems > Laboratory > Local Coordinate Systems node and select New > Cartesian.
  2. In the Edit dialog:
    1. Enter the following data:
      Table 1.
      Origin [0.323721, 0.0754883, 0.1]
      i Direction [0.928477, 0.371391, 0.0]
      j Direction [-0.371391, 0.928477, 0.0]

    2. Click Create then Close.
To assign the rotation motion to the local coordinate system:
  1. Select the Tools > Motions > Rotation node and set Managed Coordinate Systems to Laboratory > Cartesian 1.
  2. Save the simulation.
