Generic Launcher Link Reference

In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, you can specify the settings for launching an external application under the External Links node. A generic link node, External Links > [Generic Launcher 1], can be created either by activating the External Launcher model in the physics continua or by adding the generic launcher link within the External Links node.

[Generic Launcher 1] Properties

Link Type
Describes the type of connection. Read-only.
Link Priority
Specifies the order in which the links are executed.

Link Models

In a Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation, you access the co-simulation framework by activating co-simulation models in the physics continua. These models determine the physics of the coupling, including the fields that can be exchanged with the partner simulation.

Link models configure the connection to a partner application or file. The link icon can change depending on the application, or file, that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ connects to through the link. The link models must be appropriate for the co-simulation or file export model selected in the physics continuum.

[Generic Launcher 1] Conditions and Values

Launch Partner Option
Allows you to specify which method Simcenter STAR-CCM+ uses to launch the partner simulation. Currently for the generic launcher you can only run the simulation through resource manager. For more information, see Running a Co-Simulation Using Resource Manager.
Concurrency Option
Allows you to specify which application runs first when the co-simulation starts. The available options are Lead and Lag. The leading application runs first and, when the exchange criteria are met, it sends initial data to the partner application. The lagging application waits for the initial data from the leading application before running. When the exchange criteria are met, it sends data back to the leading application. The exchange process continues until the stopping criteria are satisfied.
Interval Trigger
Specifies the trigger method for the automatic execution of the application. The available options are:
Method Corresponding Value Node
Time Step
Allows you to specify the launch application frequency as number of time-steps between update events.
Time Step Frequency
Specifies the number of time-steps between two consecutive update events
Delta Time
Allows you to specify the time interval between update events
Delta Time
Specifies the time interval between two consecutive update events
None
No automatic update of the specified application. If this option is selected, you launch the external application manually using the Right-Click Action.
None
External Continua
Allows you to select the external physics continuum in which you chose the External Launcher model. Only available if the External Launcher model is active.
Verbosity Level
Controls the amount of information that is printed to the Output window.
Application Progression
Allows you to monitor the current stage of the launched application. Read-only.
Compute Processes
Allows you to specify the number of computational resources are used for the external application.
Executable File
Allows you to specify the path to the Executable File as well as any Additional Command Line Options needed to successfully run the external application.

Generic Launcher Right-Click Action

Launch
Allows you to launch the external application manually. Resource Manager must already be active to achieve this.
