Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Co-Simulation

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to couple two running simulations together in a co-simulation analysis. The Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to Simcenter STAR-CCM+ co-simulation capability targets analyses involving conjugate heat transfer (CHT), fluid-structure interaction (FSI), and exchange of any scalar or vector fields across the coupled boundaries or regions.

In addition to CHT and FSI, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ co-simulation allows you to account for the thermal effects of droplet impingement and fluid film formation at a fluid-structure interface. In fluid film applications, the time scales for film formation are much smaller than the time scales of thermal conduction. Co-simulation allows you to model film formation and impingement in one simulation, and thermal conduction in another simulation. Both simulations contain a representation of the same fluid film, but solve for different physics. The fluid film representations exchange solution data during the co-simulation. Example applications are SCR devices and electric machine cooling.
