RBA Link Reference
You specify the RBA file coupling details in a link under the External Links node. A Rotor Blade Aeroelasticity link node represents a connection to an RBA motion file.
[Link 1] Properties
- Link Type
- Describes the type of connection. Read-only.
- Link Priority
- Specifies the order in which the links are executed.
[Link 1] Models
Link models configure the connection to a partner application or file. The link icon changes based on the application, or file, that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ connects to through the link. The link model must be appropriate for the co-simulation or file export model selected in the physics continuum.
[Link 1] Conditions
- Field Treatments
- Allows you to add Curve to Surface Mapping and Surface to Curve Mapping treatments to map between zones. Curve to Surface Mapping maps imported beam displacements and rotations to displacements on the vertices of the target surface zone. Surface to Curve Mapping converts 3D surface forces to nodal forces and moments on the target curve zone. See Mapping the Surface and Beam Data.
- Verbosity Level
- Controls the amount of information that is printed to the Output window.
[Link 1] Values
- Connection to file
- Displays the state of data export and the output file name. Read-only.
- Data Sampling
- Allows you to specify the period of azimuth angles, over which data is
sampled and exported to an output file, and the frequency of each export
event.
- Start Sampling—allows you to specify the azimuth angle at which the first export event occurs.
- Sampling Period—allows you to specify the range over which data is exported after the first export event.
- Sampling Frequency—allows you to specify the frequency of each export event by the change in azimuth angle.
- Euler Angle Convention
- Allows you to specify the
Euler angle convention used in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to convert the Euler angle rotations in the input
file to rotation vectors.
Note The typical Euler angle convention used in most RBA software is Z-Y-X intrinsic rotation. The convention within Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is extrinsic, hence the equivalent convention is X-Y-Z extrinsic rotation. - Input File
- Specifies the name and
location of the RBA file that contains the beam displacement data.
- Directory—directory in which the RBA files are located. You can select the file directly; In this case, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically updates the Base Filename and Extension properties.
- Base Filename—specifies the name of the file, without path or extension.
- File Extension—displays the file extension.
- Output File
- Specifies the name and location of the data file to be exported:
- Directory—allows you to specify the directory in which Simcenter STAR-CCM+ saves the file. By default, the file is stored in the same directory as the simulation file.
- Base Filename—allows you to specify a name for the exported data file, without file path or extension.
- File Extension—allows you to specify the file extension.
Zones Manager Right-Click Actions
- New
- Adds a zone under the Zones node.
Zone Manager Properties
- Number of Zones
- Displays the number of zones defined for this link. Read-only.
[Zone] Right-Click Actions
- Instance Zone
- Adds a zone with the zone type Instance Zone. Instance zones inherit the conditions and values from the parent zone, excluding the Parts or Surface Parts.
[Zone] Properties
- Index
- Displays a unique identifier for this zone. Read-only.
- Zone Type
- Allows you to set the zone type as a Curve Zone or Surface Zone. Curve zones represent the 1D beams in which the external motion data is stored on. Surface zones represent the internal Simcenter STAR-CCM+ boundaries. A zone has Zone Type set to Instance Zone (read-only) if it is created through the Instance Zone action (see Instance Zone).
- Parent Zone
- Specifies the zone from which the zone has inherited conditions and values. Only valid for zones with Zone Type set to Instance Zone.
[Zone] Conditions and Values
- Continuum
- Specifies the continuum of the zone. For a beam zone, set to an external continuum. For a blade boundary zone, set to an internal fluid continuum.
- Surface Parts
- Specifies the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ boundaries of the zone. Available on surface zones and their instances.
- Parts
- Specifies the external region associated with a curve zone or its instances. This is automatically specified when you create the external parts from the [Link 1] node.
- Exported Fields
- Allows you to export
certain fields to the output file. The fields you can export depend on
the zone type:
- Curve Zone—by default, you export force and moment data.
- Surface Zone—by default, you export pressure data. You can export wall shear stress data by adding an an additional mechanical field (see Exported/Imported Fields Manager Right-Click Actions).
For more information, see Exported and Imported Fields Properties.
- Imported Fields
- Specifies the data that
is imported onto the zone. The imported fields depend on the zone
type:
- Curve Zone—the displacement and rotation fields are imported from the RBA input file.
- Surface Zone—the displacement field is imported from the curve zone.
For more information, see Exported and Imported Fields Properties.
- Coordinate System
- Specifies the coordinate system that rotates along with the rotor. Available on curve zones.
- Initialization Values
- Allows you to change the initialization values for the exported fields.
- Radius
- Allows you to specify the radius of the rotor. Availabe on curve zones.
- Twist Angle
- Allows you to specify the
rotor blade twist (the spanwise pitch of the undeformed blade). Only
available on curve zones. Specify the twist using the the following
properties:
- Method—selects the method to specify the blade twist. The Constant method allows you to specify a single value for twist along the blade. The Table (Twist Angle) option allows you to specify the blade twist as a table of twist angles at specific control points along the blade.
- Value—allows you to specify a constant blade twist value. Available when Method is set to Constant.
- Table (Twist Angle)
- Allows you to specify a
table and table column to describe the blade twist along the undeformed
blade from root to tip. Only available when the twist angle method is
set to Table (Twist Angle) on a curve zone. Make
sure the twist data is stored within a single column and all values are
in radians. The angles correspond to the twist at each aerodynamic
control point.
- Table—select the table with the blade twist data. For information on importing tables into Simcenter STAR-CCM+, see Tables.
- Table: Data—select the column of the table that contains the blade twist data.
- Angle Offset
- Allows you to specify the clockwise rotational translation of an instance zone from its parent zone.
Exported and Imported Fields Properties
- Initialization Method: always set to User-specified initialization value. You can change the initialization value under the relevant node.
- Field Stencil: the location on the coupled part (face, vertex, or cell) from which the field is exported or imported.
- Field Treatment: always set to Unmanaged. Read-only.
- Scalar Function or Vector Function: specifies the field function containing the data to be exported or imported.
