Generic Launcher

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ provides a generic launcher for external applications that allows you to launch any application or file at a specified time interval during a simulation.

The external application can run in conjunction with another co-simulation or file exchange instance. To set up the generic launcher, you define an external link under the External Links node. A generic launcher link can coexist with any other links.
  1. Create an external link for the generic launcher in one of the following ways:
    • If the simulation tree already contains the External Links node, right-click the External Links node and select New > Generic Launcher.

The external application runs in conjunction with any other application defined by existing external links.

    • If the simulation does not include other external links, create an additional physics continuum and activate the External Launcher model. For more information on the model requirements, see Generic Launcher Model Reference.

When you activate this model, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically creates a generic external link under the External Links node.

  2. Select the External Links > [Generic Launcher 1] > Conditions > Concurrency Option node and set the Option to either Lead or Lag.
Optionally, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to automatically trigger launch events throughout the simulation. To set this option:
  1. Select the Interval Trigger node and set Trigger to Time Step or Delta Time.
  2. Select the corresponding Value node and specify the interval between launch events.
For more information see Generic Launcher Link Reference.
  3. Select the [Generic Launcher 1] > Values > Executable File node and specify the Executable File and the Additional Command Line Options.
  4. If you wish to run the generic link on more than one resource, select the Compute Processes node and set the Compute Processes to the appropriate number of resources.
  5. Run the simulation using Resource Manager.
