Examining Plots

View the velocity and shear stress plots.

Use the following steps:
  1. Activate the Velocity Plot at X = 0.38 display.
The plot now appears as shown below.

The experimental results compare reasonably well with the numerical data. You can see that the greatest discrepancy is found in the recirculation zone downstream of the obstacle.

Given that the y+ contours indicate that the wall data is also reasonably accurate, you can estimate the length of the recirculation zone from the wall shear stress plot.

  1. Select the WSS Plot tab at the top of the Display window.
The plot now appears as shown below:

The above result shows that the downstream recirculation zone extends from approximately X = 0.38 m to X = 0.9 m and hence is roughly 0.5 m in length.
