Convective Velocity Option

The Convective Velocity Option allows you to activate a convective velocity for simulating energy convection within a solid region.

(See v s in Eqn. (236).) The convective velocity field can be rotational, translational, or both, and is intended for use in steady cases only. Rotation is specified by providing an axis of rotation and a rotation rate. Translation is specified by providing the translation velocity.

The Convective Velocity Option appears in solid regions when either of the Segregated Solid Energy or Coupled Solid Energy models are enabled. It should only be used when the region is a pure body of rotation or translation. All free surfaces must be tangential to the direction of the specified convective velocity. Note that bodies with holes and groves are usually not pure bodies of rotation, as illustrated below:

It is recommended that the solid energy under-relaxation factor be reduced to a value between 0.5 and 0.6 when convection is included.
