Harmonic Balance Field Functions Reference

When the Harmonic Balance model is active, the meanings of some field functions in visualizations can be affected by the value of the Representation property. The affected field functions are unsteady or time-varying functions used in scenes, reports, or plots—functions such as Pressure or Temperature. The visualization of time-invariant quantities (for example, Cell Index or Least Squares Quality) is not affected by the Representation property.

For time-varying quantities, the Volume Mesh representation gives the time-mean solution field, and using the HB Solution View representation gives the state of the solution as selected in the corresponding HB Solution View node, such as Physical Time or Fourier Mode.

The following field functions are considered as time-varying quantities in Harmonic Balance.:

  • Density
  • Effective Viscosity
  • Elliptic Function
  • Entropy
  • Mach Number
  • Mass Flow Rate
  • Mass Imbalance
  • Modified Diffusivity
  • Normal Stress Function
  • Pressure
  • Sound Speed
  • Specific Dissipation Rate
  • Specific Heat
  • Temperature
  • Total Enthalpy
  • Total Pressure
  • Total Temperature
  • Turbulent Dissipation Rate
  • Turbulent Kinetic Energy
  • Turbulent Viscosity
  • Turbulent Viscosity Ratio
  • Velocity

This also applies to the following functions when the Harmonic Balance Flutter model is active:

  • Area
  • Centroid
  • Displacement
  • Volume
