Defining the Environment

As you are only interested in the magnetic potential solution, you model the vacuum chamber as a solid. Modeling a vacuum as a fluid would require solving the equations of flow, which is not necessary in this case.

  1. Create a physics continuum named Void.
  2. For the physics continuum, Void, select the following models:
    Group box Physics Model
    Space Axisymmetric
    Time Steady
    Material Solid
    Optional Models Electromagnetism
    Enabled Models Gradients (selected automatically)
Electromagnetism Harmonic Balance FV Transverse Magnetic Potential
Optional Models Eddy Current Suppression (selected automatically)
The default electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability are appropriate, as they are set to the vacuum values.
  1. Select the Regions > Void node and set Physics Continuum to Void.
At the domain outer boundary, set the magnetic potential to zero:
  1. Select the Void > Boundaries > Outer > Physics Conditions > Magnetic Vector Potential Specification node and set Method to Magnetic Vector Potential Z.
The default value for the Magnetic Vector Potential Z is zero (equivalent to the perfect electric conductor assumption).
  2. Save the simulation.
