Setting Material Properties

Set the material properties for gas and air.

The dynamic viscosity for air is calculated as:

μ=ρuLRe

where the velocity u = 252 m/s, the chord length L = 1 m, and the Reynolds number Re = 6.5E6. The density ρ has a value of 1.177 kg/m^2 and is calculated according to the ideal gas law:

ρ=PRT

where the pressure P = 101325 Pa, the specific gas constant for air R = 287 J/kg-K, and the temperature T = 300 K.

The thermal conductivity for air is calculated as:

λ=cpμPr

where the specific heat is cp = 1003.62 J/kg-K and the Prandtl number for air is Pr = 0.72.

To specify the resulting values of 4.58E-5 Pa-s for the dynamic viscosity and 0.0638414 W/m-K for the thermal conductivity:
  1. Open the Gas and Air nodes.

The material properties for air are contained within.

  1. Edit the Material Properties node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Dynamic Viscosity Method Constant
    Constant Value 4.58E-5 Pa-s
    Thermal Conductivity Method Constant
    Constant Value 0.0638414 W/m-K
