Poisson Equation
The PDE wall distance calculation uses a Poisson-type pure diffusion equation for a distance-related variable .
This equation is a generalized 3D extension of an exact one-dimensional intuitive formulation proposed by Spalding [396]:

where the boundary conditions are set as:
- at the wall boundary (Dirichlet boundary condition).
- at all other boundaries, where is the normal vector for the boundary (Neumann boundary condition).
