Numerical Flow Solution
In the finite volume method, the solution domain is subdivided into a finite number of small control volumes, corresponding to the cells of a computational grid.
Discrete versions of the integral form of the conservation equations are applied to each control volume. The objective is to obtain a set of linear algebraic equations, with the total number of unknowns in each equation system corresponding to the number of cells in the grid. The dependent variable values are stored at the cell center, that is, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ uses a co-located variable arrangement.
