Creating the Adjoint Cost Function

An adjoint shape optimization uses adjoint sensitivities to derive an optimized shape based on an engineering quantity represented by cost functions.

The objective of this analysis is to minimize the difference between the Y-Junction manifold outlet mass flow rates. You use the Mass Flow Difference Indicator report as a constraint for the adjoint cost function.

To create the cost function:

  1. Right-click the Solvers > Adjoint > Adjoint Cost Functions node and select New.

  2. Rename the Adjoint Cost Function > Reports node to Mass Flow Difference Indicator.
  3. Select the Mass Flow Difference Indicator node and set Report to Mass Flow Difference Indicator.
  4. Save the simulation.
