Visualizing the Shape Optimization

You visualize the optimized geometry by displaying it against the original geometry. You add a vector displayer to show the imposed displacement field vector, and use the mass flows plot as annotation in the scene to follow the optimization progress.

The geometry displayers with the original (grey) and optimized (blue) shapes are already pre-defined in the Displacement scene in the simulation file.

To visualize the shape optimization :

  1. Open the Scenes > Displacement scene.
  2. Click the Scene/Plot.
  3. Right-click the Displacement node and select New Displayer > Vector.
  4. Rename the Vector 1 node to Displacement Field .
  5. Define the vector displayer:
    1. Select the Displacement Field > Parts node and set Parts to Regions > Region > Boundaries > Region:Manifold.Y-Junction
    2. Select the Vector Field node and set Function to Imposed Displacement.
    3. Select the Displacement Field > Glyph node and set Glyph Tip Scale to 0.5 .
  6. Click Simulation.
  7. Add the mass flows plot as an image annotation:
    1. Right-click the Plots > Mass Flows node and select Create Plot Image Annotation.
    2. Select the Tools > Annotations > Plot Image 1 annotation and drag and drop it into the vector scene.
The visualization is set up as shown below:

  8. Save the simulation.
